He occupied rooms in the Storozhevskaya monastery, and his soldiers scattered around the monastery and began to rob, not sparing even the temples and holy icons ... One evening, Prince Eugene lay down and fell asleep, and now, in reality or in a dream - he did not know it - he sees that some noble old man enters the room. Appearing said: “They did not lead their army to plunder the monastery; if you fulfill my request, God will have mercy on you, and you will return to your fatherland safe and sound ”...
General Beauharnais awoke in complete amazement. The dream was almost a reality. Then he went to the temple, where he saw the icon with the face of the Monk Savva Storozhevsky, and recognized him as his night guest ...

In 1839, the son of Eugene Beauharnais arrived in Russia - Maximilian, Duke of Leuchtenberg. He, together with the Imperial family, visited the Storozhevsky monastery and bowed to the relics of the Monk Savva, as he had promised to his father. In the same year, he proposed to Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna, daughter of Nicholas I. After the wedding, the newlyweds settled in St. Petersburg on Nevsky Prospekt. So the descendants of Beauharnais settled in Russia. Due to the events of 1917, the family of the dukes of Leuchtenberg had to go abroad, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren now live in France, Germany, the USA, Belgium and Australia. All of them are Orthodox and bear Russian names. And the Monk Savva is revered as his heavenly patron.
In the Orthodox monastery of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary (in Bussy-en-Haut, near Paris), mother Elizabeth lives in the world, the Duchess of Leuchtenberg, from the family of Beauharnais. She said that perhaps General Eugene Beauharnais was baptized in the Orthodox rite before his death, and therefore began to bear a slightly changed name - Eugene. To this we can add that after the Napoleonic campaigns, a chapel was built near Paris in the name of Savva, surprisingly reminiscent of the Nativity Cathedral of the monastery in Zvenigorod. Savva Storozhevsky has been revered in France since the 19th century, and not only by Russian emigrants, but also by the Orthodox French.
