Pilgrimage of the deaf to the Transcarpathian region
Transcarpathia is an amazing region with different culture, peoples and traditions. And the Orthodox heritage of Transcarpathia is known for its stylistic architecture, the rigor of monastic life, original icon painting and wonderful people who have remained faithful to Orthodox traditions, perseverance of faith and very hospitable.
With the financial support of the NGO “Foundation of the Pavlichenko Brothers”, representatives of the Kiev Orthodox community of deaf people at the Holy Trinity Ioninsky Monastery had the opportunity to visit the holy places of Transcarpathia on the feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist.
For joint prayer and communion, believers from communities of deaf ears of Mukachev, Uzhgorod and Kiev united. Hearingless pilgrims visited the St. Nicholas nunnery in Mukachevo, the Holy Trinity-Cyril and Methodius nunnery in Svalyava, the All-Sacred Monastery in Mukachevo, the Holy Resurrection Monastery in Uzhgorod, the Holy Pokrovsky Monastery in the village of Rakoshino and -Uspensky convent in the village of Domboki, Mukachevo district.
For deaf people, as sounds isolated from the world, communication with each other and the external society is very important. Often we neglect such people, denying them human help, as a result of not understanding them. A deaf person is left alone with his problem, losing interest in life and self-confidence. Joint work and meetings of hearing-impaired people with hearing people open up new possibilities in understanding each other, forming in people who are hearing-impaired accepting themselves as a personality and comfortable perceiving themselves in the world around them. And such trips remain in the memory for a long time, warming the soul with warm memories and impressions.
